An all-encompassing biography of Emelie M. Perkins M.D. “An Extraordinary Woman of Her Time” (1890-1986), is presented by Mary Lou Burditt, who, as her niece, knew her intimately.
The biography traces her entire life, including her travels in South America, and in Europe. Completing her early education in Rutland she attended Smith College graduating in 1910, and later became the first woman to receive a UVM Medical School degree in 1929. She opened her practice in Rutland in 1931 and worked until her retirement in 1957.
